People say they have never seen God.
I agree that no one has seen the face of God, yet I can say through faith, you will be able to see Him very clearly. When I think of people, I generally don’t picture them, but rather describe them by their character or their works.
So how do I see God?
I see His creativity when I gaze upon a sunset or sunrise. I see Him when I ask, “Where did the color blue come from?” I see Him when I notice the many shades of green there are when I drive through the countryside. What was He thinking when He made a butterfly or an octopus? I see God’s power when it rains, when it snows, when the waves crash along the shoreline. I see God’s might when the wind blows, the stars sparkle, when the clouds cover the earth. I see Him in fire, in the sun, in the moon, and as day falls into night. I see Him as grass grows and leaves change color — all of these happens without me having anything to do with it.
I see God’s passion as I peer into the innocent and wondering eyes of my grandson, who trusts all and is full of joy.
I see God’s pain and tears as I watch people get hurt or abandon each other. I see His pain in the poor who are still hungry, and in single moms making it through the day. I see His pain when I visit a nursing home and see all the lonely faces of forgotten people, or when I hear about wars, torture, kidnapping, and murder.
I can see why God loves us, because this is still how He sees us I see God’s love as I watch people transform through grace as they experience His forgiveness and accept Jesus as their savior. I see his love when hope returns, when hearts are mended, and when life is restored.
I see His wisdom as I read His word through great writers who He has inspired. God’s very words touch, guide, and comfort the deepest part of my soul.
I see God’s joy as I watch a painting develop or as a dance take stage or as I listen to music that serenade and bring us to new places.
Because of all these, I can describe God very clearly to you. And each day I draw near Him, I see Him more clearly.
How tall is He? What color eyes or hair does He have? What color is His skin, is He stout or skinny? I don’t know, and truth be told, I don’t care.
I see God more clearly than I see most people directly in front of me.
Can you see Him today?
