If we can fully understand the almighty God, the creator of the universe, all-powerful, all present, the one to be known as the Father of all mankind — and grasp His loving intent of being fatherly — then we will get a glimpse into His heart.
When we survey all the hurt, we inflict on each other, I picture myself saying, “Dad so and so is hurting me.” and my dad saying, “I know but don’t worry, I will take care of this. Look into my eyes, son and trust me. It will be alright.” When I look into his eyes, I see such confidence, security, comfort, peace. But when I look closer, I see what appears to be a tear forming.
A tear, held back, but representing the sadness God feels seeing His children, the very ones He created in His image, could be so harmful to each other.
I think of Jesus being tortured, mocked, spit upon, saying, “Father, they are hurting me.” God replying, “Jesus my son, I know, but look into my eyes. Focus. Don’t let your eyes drift away. I have you, son, and we will get through this. Remember this is for all eternity: I am here with you at every sting of the whip. Be strong my son.”
There could be no dry eye between a father and his child in that moment, each with eyes locked onto each other.
This is our Father, who art in heaven.
Today, as we go about this thing called life, we will most likely get hurt along the way. Look into God’s eyes today and see what Jesus saw. The almighty, powerful, compassionate, loving, living, peaceful, and ultimate eyes of a loving father, assuring you that he has a hold of you — and won’t let go.
Stay in the moment long enough that you to may see a small tear forming.
