Psalms 106:20
20 They exchanged their glorious God
for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
Does anyone else think that this was a bad trade, that this sounds so absurd that anyone would make a deal like this? An image of a bull eating grass, really? This tells you how much value they placed on an animal. Not a live animal, but an image of one. They gave up a relationship with the living God for a statue. Picture that for a moment. How could this be? Why would they do this?
Psalms 106:21-22 (NIV)
21 They forgot the God who saved them,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
They forgot, we forget the God who lives in us and with us who is the maker of heaven and earth and all things under our feet.
Why do people make trades? They want or at least hope for something better than what they already have. They no longer see the value in what they have. They want to gain something.
Yet with God, we have the best of everything. There is nothing better in heaven or on earth that equals God.
But we keep trading everyday something of lesser value for our relationship with God.
We trade our,
Time
Money
Position
Relationship
Minds
Body
Truth
Souls
Possessions
Self-worth
Love
Now the cool thing to understand is not that there is something we can find that is better than God and we just have to keep looking, no, it’s the fact we don’t have to ever spend time trading again. When we accept Jesus as our savior we made the best trade decision we would or could ever make.
We traded our hearts, minds, and souls for Gods.
We now can be at peace and watch God at work within us.
In our trade, we gave up our sins and in return, we got love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, self-control.
We got unconditional love, a purpose for our life, and ultimately eternal life with God in heaven.
Put a sign in your window that says, the store closed forever, no more trades. Gone fishing (fishing for men).
Just a thought…
