Matthew 1:23
23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Why did God choose the name Immanuel to mean, “God with us?” Why not for us or protect us or lead us or support or serve us? As a leader, God did not delegate His authority. God walks with us daily all throughout the day. He doesn’t say, “Okay, I have trained you up for the past 10 years. Now, you are on your own.” No, He knows that our training is never complete. It just takes on a different look and always adapts to our growth. He does say that we are to grow and that our faith should increase along the way. Yet He knows the longer we walk and trust Him, and as our faith increases, so do the challenges.
In life, we find this to be true at work, at home or in everyday situations. We accumulate experiences which allow us to grow and navigate successfully through the challenges before us, building our confidence along the way. Yet when we run into new challenges that are bigger than us, we revert to our childlike fears and doubts once again, seeking and calling out for help. “God with us” tells us that He never leaves us. He is never unavailable. He never runs out of energy, compassion, patience or solutions. We don’t have to go looking for Him, schedule an appointment or wait until He returns from vacation. No, He is there all the time. What an example of great leadership. He says He will walk with us, train, guide, and challenge us until we are made complete. What better way to describe Him, than God with us.
