Just a Moment

It has been said that we have approximately 70,000 thoughts a day. That is about one thought every .81 seconds. It is also been said that we can only have one thought at a time.

First, a little math: If you sleep 8 hours a day, that’s 23,333 of your thoughts done unconsciously or a third. If you work 8 hours a day, that’s another 23,333 thoughts focused on your vocation. That leaves you with 23,333 thoughts left for you to mold and shape your mind according to your desires. May I take just a few of those thoughts? Assuming it took you two minutes to read this, I just controlled 97 of your thoughts. I hope it was worth it.

By the grace of God, each moment is a new beginning. Think about this for a few seconds — you know now you have some seconds to fill up.
If each moment is an opportunity to a new beginning, then I have 86,400 moments every day that I can start over. I can change the very next moment by deciding what I am going to think about.

God says, “Blessed are those who meditate on His word day and night.” Wow, if scientists say it takes only 10,000 hours to be an expert in any subject, then if I did what God asked, I could be an expert in God in 416 days. That’s just a little over a year.

But back to reality: God wants us to concentrate on each moment, knowing that this is about all we truly can control.

Here’s what’s exciting: If I get this exact moment wrong, I have an opportunity in the very next moment to get it right. For a brief moment — the very moment you read this — stop what you’re doing and praise God. I think you’ll find a domino effect: from that one single moment of praise, you’ll change the rest of your day.
