Not So Close, Please

Psalms 1:1-2

Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law, he meditates day and night.

What is it about God that He wants to be with us all the time, day and night? Is that not what we want? Or do we want a God that will be with only when we determine the time and place? In regular relationships, do you know of anyone who you want to be or could be with 100% of the time? Eventually, would you feel smothered and need some alone time.

God says He will never leave us or forsake us. Do we want God to be with us all the time? If not, how much of the time do you want Him to be with you? All day every day? Every other day? Mornings not evenings? Only on weekends? Or maybe only in times of trouble, but not when all things are good? Or maybe with your Christian friends but not when hanging out with your co-workers?

When did we decide that we can tell God when we want Him to be with us when or where?

Regardless of how much we want to be with God, He wants to be with us, always. He is with us always. So why we do think we have to go look for God?

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

He said He will be with us wherever we go.

Are you feeling comfort or anxiety with God being around all the time? Yes, this means in your good moments and your not-so-good moments, in public and in your most secret place.

Psalms 139:7-9

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.

Who do you love so much that you want to be with them all the time.? I don’t think we understand what that type of love looks like. Yet, God does. This is the desire of His heart that we be with Him all the time. He knows by doing this, we won’t be smothered but rather blessed.

Psalms 1:3

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

By being with God all the time, we are tied to His power, glory, and goodness. We can experience life as He intended.

Now imagine that you are experiencing blessings all day long, seven days a week. Do you think you would, at some time, tire of this and ask for it to stop? “Okay already. Stop the blessings let me have some time for sin, pain, suffering, poverty, sickness, betrayal, loneliness, selfishness.” Each time we turn from God, we open the door for the world to sneak in.

Stay close to God today. He is not over there to be beckoned, rather He is right there with you always.

The author John Stott said, “We have as much of Jesus as we want”. How much do you want today?
